Card Minnows Newsletter - 5/18/2021

Hey there,

Welcome to the Card Minnows Newsletter. Here's some of the coolest things I've seen this week:

Target Stops Selling Trading Cards

On May 7th, four men attacked a customer in a Target parking lot for his trading cards. He had just purchased a box of sports cards from Target. The man that was mugged pulled out a gun to defend himself but did not fire it.

In response to this incident, Target has decided to temporarily suspend the sale of all trading cards from it's stores. You can still purchase cards from Target's website. However, bots make it hard to secure any of these products.

I understand Target's decision on this matter. The sale of these cards is not worth the headache and safety concerns. Because Target has to adhere to the MSRP, they are not raking in money from high card prices.

SGC Drops Their Prices

SGC is dropping their prices for card grading from $75/card to $30/card. The company initially raised their prices to slow down submissions and catch up with their backlog. They have not caught up and as a result lowered their prices.

I believe SGC is a great option if you want to have newer cards graded. With the backlog at PSA and BGS, SGC might be the only way to get your cards back within the year.
