Card Minnows Newsletter - 4/06/2021

Hey there,
Welcome to the Card Minnows Newsletter. Here's a list of the coolest things I've seen this week:
Noteworthy Auction -
On Saturday, 4/3, a 1st Edition Neo Genesis Sealed Booster Pack PSA 10 sold for just under $1500. I had no idea that people:
- Send sealed booster packs to get graded
- Would pay $1500 to buy one
I thought that sealed packs and boxes were bought to be opened. But the graded ones are left sealed as an investment or collectible, similar to a Charizard card. One collector explained that the magic is in the possibilities hidden within the wrapper. The sealed pack could contain a 1st edition Lugia but you'll never know because it won't be opened.
Upcoming Release -
2020 Panini Contenders Optic Football is being released Friday, 4/9. This set of cards is the same as the regular Contenders cards but on chrome (shiny) cards. The price of one hobby box is $5,500. That's a heavy premium for anyone looking for Herbert, Burrow, or Tua rookie cards.
New Way to Buy Cards -
Whatnot is a new collectibles marketplace with a twist. I think of it as a modernized QVC. There are livestreams with broadcasters promoting auctions for Pokemon cards, FunkoPops, and sports cards. Some of the streamers will even open the packs on stream for you. It's a strange combination of shopping and entertainment.
