Let the Music Move you

It is no secret that many authors use music for inspiration, for motivation, and sometimes just for fun while we're writing. Oftentimes, we hear a song that inspires a story or a scene that won't let go until we write it. The song will play on repeat until the story is spit out onto the page. It can be fun. It can be torture. But in the end, the muse is marvelous!

So I thought I'd share some of the songs that have inspired some of my scenes (or even complete stories). It's quite the eclectic playlist.

  1. The opening chapter from Rekindled Prophecy has Greylyn keeping an eye on a soul stealer while being forced to line dance with one of his cronies. That song was "Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus. And yes, back in the day I may have line danced to this one at a country bar quite similar to the one in the book.
  2. The overall love theme for the Greylyn the Guardian Angel trilogy (Rekindled Prophecy, Revelations, and Redemption) was "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence. Seriously that song haunted me, and sometimes, still does. image
  3. Renegade's sexy, devil-may-care guardian angel Jasper is a reverse "Dark Horse" from Katy Perry.
  4. Falling for the Devil had many songs but I think the tone was set by "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC.
  5. My current WIP (paranormal but not romance) starts with "The Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett.
  6. My current WIP (my first non-paranormal romance) is fueled by "Broken" by Seether and Amy Lee (who happens to be the lead singer for Evanescence - see above).
  7. The next story (as yet unwritten) has "Bulletproof" by Godsmack stuck in my head.

And there's plenty more, but this gives you a glimpse into my brain when I write stories and how the muse moves me.

When you read do you conjure your own soundtrack for the story? I'd love to hear about it. If you'd like to share, please reply to this email.
