Grading Essays Is For the Birds!!

image

Today I’d like to share with you an alternative grading method that could afford you the opportunity to grade a class set of 30 essays in 40 minutes or less.

This is just one of the 25 alternative grading methods we’ll be discovering in the two-hour intensive on November 12th.

It’s entitled 100, 90, 80, 70 Roulette.

Think about the amount of time this one method can save you.

But the kicker …

Watch your students absolutely flourish as writers as a result of using this one simple alternative approach … PLUS … there are 25 more alternative approaches to learn and incorporate into your instructional practices.

I jettisoned traditional grading methods from my practice quite some years ago. Not only am I not burdened by the chronic “NEED” to grade anymore, but I have created classrooms of great writers.

See for yourself:

As I have mentioned previously, all of my PD sessions will now be hosted through The National Writing Project.

This is great news for those needing PD hours.

For this session, NWP is offering a completion badge of two hours.

Most ELA teachers punch in 60 hour work weeks, if not more.

And for the most part, it's because we stubbornly adhere to the traditional grading paradigm.

It doesn't work because 99.9% of the onus is on the teacher.

For real ... above and beyond asking our students to read our comments (which many students do not even do this small task) ... what are we asking our students to do?

Over the course of my twenty-plus year career, I have developed and honed a slew of alternative grading methods that not only free us from the cumbersome time suck of the traditional paradigm, but I have created a system that absolutely enables students to grow and mature as writers.

In giving students more accountibility, we liberate ourselves and reclaim our weekends and evenings in the process.

It's a beautiful arrangement!

Come join us on November 12th at 11 am EST live in Zoom.

Happy teaching and happy writing!
