Up my sleeve today, I have some tricks for hammerin' home the thesis for all of my AP friends.
With my AP Language students, I often use classic commercials to teach the rhetorical appeals.
Further, we use these commercials to practice intros for FRQ 2.
In today's writing workshop video, I spotlight a classic Winston cigarette commercial that features our favorite Stone Age family, the Flintstones.
Per usual, I "Bob Ross" how to pull the strings of my declarative thesis template.
And for my AP Literature friends looking for some FRQ 1 & FRQ 2 practice ...
I used a fantastic short film entitled "The Bread" to showcase how to construct an inverted thesis for the purposes of performing literary analysis.
The film is a great launching pad into discussion of how to perform allegorical reads ... a fantastic segue to revisit our octopus friend.
The writing workshop videos have plenty of exemplars and models so that the process is nicely delineated for your students.
With both exercises, this is a great way not only to practice writing introductions, but to accurately ascertain authorial intent and the construction of meaning.
Happy teaching and happy writing!
