In reading children's stories to my grandson, something occurred to me
There are a ton of children's books that adhere to the template I advise my students to use when they construct their body paragraphs
The syllogistic method!
Jon Klassen's classic tale entitled "I Want My Hat Back" is a great case in point.
Elucidating difficult concepts like how to sustain a clear line of reasoning in this manner sure can illumine a lot of light bulbs.
In my most recent writing workshop videos, I spotlight how the plot line in "I Want My Hat Back" is identical to the LOR in a syllogistic body paragraph.
To illustrate this for both literary and rhetorical analysis, I used Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" and Kobe Bryant's letter to his 17-year old-self.
Happy teaching and happy writing!
