The Role of the Red-Ink-Hawk In Traditional Grading

Good morning fellow ELA teachers!

I’m super excited to host the Alternative Grading Methods Two-Hour Intensive on July 31st. As most of you know, this summer I am finally getting around to writing my second textbook whereby I’ll be featuring my 40 alternative grading methods. If everything sticks to plan, everything should be ready for the publisher by the start of September.

Teachers often ask me how I got so far outside of the box with regards to my teaching.

It’s not that I’m super unorthodox, I just think around the things that I see as an obstacle.

And yes, constantly grading early in my career was a HUGE obstacle.

If something is driving me nuts, I’m the type of guy who will find a strategy to walk around the situation or make peace with this “thing” that is so unsettling.

And that’s what I’ve done over the years with regards to traditional grading methods – I’ve skirted the practice of being a red-ink-hawk; I never take work home; I can’t tell you the last time I graded an essay outside of the school day; my evenings and weekends are totally for my own choosing.

WE DO NOT NEED TO BE BURIED BY THE DEMANDS OF GRADING ESSAYS!!

In our two-hour intensive, I will show you how my three templates can absolutely liberate you in so many ways. Not only will your students flourish as writers, but your grading load will decrease exponentially.

So, what I’ll do is provide a brief overview of my templates and then we will delve deep into the alternative grading methods and actually grade a stack of essays together in real time. You’ll see that not only do alternative methods speed up the process, but your students will receive tangible feedback that will foster their growth as writers.

The big kicker is that I am including my self-paced course in this two-hour intensive.

Not only will you have access to the 40 alternative grading methods, but you’ll have access to the self-paced course and the Masterclass library.

No joke … the amount of time you spend lesson planning and grading just got cut in half.

I’m also more than happy to schedule a discovery call should you have any further questions.

Looking forward to a great turn out on the 31st.

It’s going to be a great PD opportunity.

Happy teaching and happy writing!

Kristian
