I’m only two weeks into my summer vacation, but it already reminds me of the days of doing YMCA camp as a kid.
I wake up, make a strong cup of coffee, and Zoom with a bunch of teachers as we work through the content of my five-day Masterclass.
ELA teachers continue to blow my mind. I am convinced that we are some of the hardest working folks in the industry. Always looking to do it better, a lot of us are doing multiple PDs during our vacation days.
That’s incredible!
The other morning, I did an online interview for an educational journal in which I discussed the direction I see writing instruction going over the next few years.
Here’s something I’m convinced of:
1. The English classroom is going to look less "literature-centric" and focus more on composition
2. Heuristics and templates will be in high demand as we begin to reframe writing instruction
3. Our students will be writing far less literary analysis and there will be a shift in focus to other expository modes
And this is in part the main impetus of my Masterclass – creating a classroom of writers with an amazing composition instructor at the center of it all.
The next Masterclass session begins on the 12th and will go until the 16th. We will meet every day next week at 11 a.m. EST. There are still a few seats available.
