One of the blessings about being an AP teacher is that we get to work with the best and brightest students in the entire building.
Having taught both AP Language and AP Literature for twenty years, I love how deep we can go with the kids - and I appreciate their tenacity and willingness to grow as learners.
In terms of devising our courses, it’s probably safe to say that we all know what rigor looks like.
Moreover, we also know a thing or two about fostering and nurturing engagement.
But in having consulted for many years with AP teachers, one thing seems to trip many of us up.
And that’s writing instruction.
How do we get these wonderful students to grow and flourish and mature as writers?
There are many workshops and conferences to attend to prepare oneself to become an AP teacher, but such little time is spent specifically on the art of teaching writing.
Here’s what I’ve come to know: all students, not just our AP students, need templates in order to become adept writers.
So, what I would like to do is offer a two-hour intensive on September 11th at 11 a.m. EST whereby we exclusively focus on how my templates can be uniformly used across the expository modes for each of the FRQs on both the Language and Literature exam.
That’s the kicker … every time a student writes an introductory paragraph, they can either declare or invert the thesis.
And for the body paragraphs … they’re going to employ the syllogistic method.
These three templates are golden for literary analysis, rhetorical analysis, argument, persuasion, synthesis, and research.
They work like magic every single time.
Once your students take possession of these templates, the art of composition is completely demystified.
No more guessing and no more reading of essays that spin in the muck and mire of poor execution.
I don’t just want to offer a two-hour intensive, I want to give all participants access to my Self-Paced Masterclass Course and the Masterclass Library.
There are so many great resources in there that will ultimately catapult you further as a writing instructor.
Here’s everything I want to include with this session:
- A live, two-hour professional development intensive hosted on Zoom that will fully orient you to my groundbreaking templates, heuristics, and alternative grading methods
- The Self-Paced Masterclass Course which includes ten instructional video lessons that will demonstrate for you how to implement the three templates of the syllogistic method as well as the declarative and inverted thesis into your classroom practices
- Detailed instruction on how to build your student writers from the ground up while equipping them with the necessary tools of grammar, punctuation, and syntax in order to cultivate rhythm, flow, and voice
- Detailed instruction with plenty of exemplars and models on how to apply the templates to each of the expository modes (literary analysis, rhetorical analysis, synthesis, argument, persuasion, research)
- In-depth instruction teaching you my “Bob Ross” approach to implementing my unique and effective templates of the syllogistic method as well as the declarative and inverted thesis
- 1-Year access to a growing library of 150+ video writing workshops (similar to the Free Fundamental Writing Workshops) that will take you step-by-step through the process of implementing the three methods I am going to teach you using the relevant literature and/or expository mode you are teaching to
- Access to over 150 professional PowerPoint presentations that walk you through how to use my highly effective writing methods that can be customized and used as a powerful guide and teaching tool in the classroom
- Access to 40 alternative grading methods that will alleviate the burdens and demands of grading essays and enable your students to grow and mature as writers
- Test prep writing workshops for both AP Literature and AP Language dating back to 2015 to the present
- A complementary copy of my textbook Teaching Teachers How To Teach Writing to serve as a further point of reference
