Our Facebook group is celebrating its first birthday today!
It’s pretty remarkable, in my eyes, that we have over four thousand members and excellent attendance for our bi-weekly webinars and workshops.
The entire inception for this group spawned by my reading an article in the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy by which their research brought to light that 91% of secondary ELA teachers were never taught how to teach writing in their practicums.
That blew my mind and I wanted to do something about it.
So, over the course of this past year we’ve tried to collectively address this need, and I think that we've made some significant strides.
We have had some great PD opportunities followed up with even greater discussions.
But here’s something I’m hearing from a number of AP teachers …
You’ve attended APSI’s, conferences, and trainings but are still having difficulty to get your students to grow and mature as writers.
So I ask you … what can we do to address this need?
What do you think is missing from your arsenal of compositional weapons and what can we do to help?

Our AP students are the best and brightest kids in the building.
