Are Traditional Grading Methods Burning You Out?

image

Before you hunker in for your next evening or weekend with the endless heap of essays you've long been dreading to grade, I encourage you to stop dead in your tracks and hear me out.

Traditional grading methods, while compelling us to accept compulsory unpaid overtime, do very little to help our students grow and mature as writers.

As such, over the past twenty years, I have invented countless alternative grading methods that quite literally help teachers restore a healthy work/life balance while also equipping their student writers to absolutely flourish and take off in rather dynamic ways.

Earlier this morning, I heard from Stacey Wilkins, head of NCTE - and it looks like my article about alternative grading methods is going to be published in the forthcoming issue 😀

And in today's video, I'd like to share with you my latest brainchild that promises the following:

✏️ In proceeding through this particular alternative grading method, you will be able to fly through a class stack of essays in 80 minutes or less

✏️ This method will clearly manifest for your students the good/bad/ugly of their writing in ways that enable them to proceed with a clear understanding of their learning targets

✏️ By the end of the lesson, you'll see the limitations of the traditional grading paradigm and the extent to which these practices actually hamper student growth

By popular request, the National Writing Project and I will be offering my Alternative Grading Methods 2-Hour Intensive yet again on March 11th at 11 a.m. EST.

We will meet in Zoom, and during our time together, we will explore 20+ other alternative methods.

Cool thing about NWP is that they award PD completion badges for those needing to fulfill certification obligations.

Also keep in mind that on March 7th at 7 p.m EST, NWP and I will be teaming up to offer a free webinar (10 Steps to Cultivating Student Voice)

To access the Zoom link, please reserve your seat (space limited)

Spring is in the air, and I feel blessed to have so many irons in the fire!

Thank you for all the support!

Happy teaching and happy writing!
