Pooh Sticks: Gamifying Grammar, Punctuation, Syntax

image

In classic Bob Ross of Composition fashion, I have a quirky, albeit pedagogically solid, gamified way to ensure that all of your students master grammar, punctuation, and syntax.

As many of you know, I kick it old school and teach from Strunk & White's seminal text entitled "Write It Right."

Within its pages, which you can locate for free online as a PDF, they nicely delineate all of the usage rules in ways that are highly accessible for our secondary students.

My Pooh Sticks game is a ton of fun!!

In fact, one student thanked me for "returning him to the womb" 🤪

Follow the directions listed in my YouTube description as far as downloading content goes (requires a couple of steps)

In the AP circles, we often talk about the unicorn known as the elusive sophistication point.

The skill sets in this exercise are one vital key to earning that singular point.

Mastery is requisite.

I also wanted to invite you to a FREE webinar that the National Writing Project and I are hosting next Tuesday evening (March 7th) at 7 EST live in Zoom.

During our hour together, we will explore how one can implement a focused and deliberate Word Study Academy to help foster voice, rhythm, and flow - all those elusive traits like flair, spunkiness, and pizazz.

And as a reminder, on March 11th at 11 a.m. EST, I will be hosting my Alternative Grading Methods 2-Hour Intensive.

If you're looking for a sure-fire way to liberate yourself from the "need" to be grading endlessly, this seminar is a perfect fit for you.

Happy teaching and happy writing!
