Watching my little grandson meticulously align the green fish, the yellow fish, the orange fish, and the red fish fostered a eureka moment in this composition teacher's head ...
Line of reasoning is simply organizing the fish on the proverbial paper!
In today's video, check out this edible graphic organizer as I demonstrate for teachers and students how to sustain a cogent line of reasoning with a Pepperidge Farm baked snack cracker.
Here's the kicker - not only is this a super high engagement way to teach composition, but it then lends itself perfectly to an alternative grading method.
For real ... my kids were gluing different colored goldfish to their essays explaining to me and their peers the logical sequence of their reasoning that they captured on paper.
It's ingenious!
This coming Saturday at 11 a.m. EST live in Zoom, the National Writing Project and I are hosting my Alternative Grading Methods 2-Hour Intensive.
For real ... come with your biggest stack of ungraded papers and witness firsthand not only how quickly we fly through them, but experience what happens when we put the onus of learning back on the students.
NWP will be awarding a completion badge of two hours for those needing PD credit.
And for those wanting to take a deep dive into my alternative grading methods plus everything else that is encompassed with my templates, NWP is bundling my Teach It "Write" Self-Paced Course at a discounted price.
These alternative grading methods are transformational.
Hope to see you Saturday morning for some magic and wonder!
Happy teaching and happy writing!
