Pretty much ever since the one-room schoolhouse, ELA teachers have by and large strictly adhered to using the traditional grading paradigm.
But why ... especially given that students really don't grow and mature much as writers no matter how much ink we manage to squeeze into the margins of their papers ...
And the kicker - traditional grading practices have robbed all of us many a weekend and an evening needlessly.
There is a far more effective way that not only restores a healthy work/life balance, but there are methods that empower students to absolutely flourish as writers.
In today's video, I present one of my many alternative grading methods.
It's entitled 100, 90, 80, 70 Roulette.
Quite literally, not only does this method enable you to grade a classroom stack in under 40 minutes, but it's guaranteed to illuminate the proverbial compositional light bulbs of all of your students.
This coming Saturday at 11 a.m. EST live in Zoom, the National Writing Project and I are hosting my Alternative Grading Methods 2-Hour Intensive.
For real ... come with your biggest stack of ungraded papers and witness firsthand not only how quickly we fly through them, but experience what happens when we put the onus of learning back on the students.
NWP will be awarding a completion badge of two hours for those needing PD credit.
And for those wanting to take a deep dive into my alternative grading methods plus everything else that is encompassed with my templates, NWP is bundling my Teach It "Write" Self-Paced Course at a discounted price.
These alternative grading methods are transformational.
Hope to see you Saturday morning for some magic and wonder!
Happy teaching and happy writing!
