Slaying a Stack of Essays

Within current educational trends, the traditional grading paradigm is getting kicked to the curb - and for good reason.

First, no matter how many comments we manage to eke-out on a student's essay, our efforts are futile in truly getting our learners to grow and mature as writers.

Second, since when did our contracts necessitate unpaid compulsory overtime?

Nowadays, teachers are increasingly drawing boundaries between their work and personal life, and alternative grading practices is a wonderful sidekick to help foster these changes so that you can reclaim your evenings and weekends.

In today's video, note how the onus of learning is placed on the student's shoulders, where it belongs.

Within the traditional grading paradigm, 99.9% of the heavy lifting is done by the teacher ... and this is chiefly why it's so ineffective.

This coming Saturday at 11 a.m. EST live in Zoom, the National Writing Project and I are hosting my Alternative Grading Methods 2-Hour Intensive.

For real ... come with your biggest stack of ungraded papers and witness firsthand not only how quickly we fly through them, but experience what happens when we put the onus of learning back on the students.

NWP will be awarding a completion badge of two hours for those needing PD credit.

And for those wanting to take a deep dive into my alternative grading methods plus everything else that is encompassed with my templates, NWP is bundling my Teach It "Write" Self-Paced Course at a discounted price.

These alternative grading methods are transformational.

Hope to see you Saturday morning for some magic and wonder!

Happy teaching and happy writing!
