Hello ,

Social Media News you can Use:

How can the president be banned?

This is not to get political at all, just to put it in perspective in case you had this question. As someone who spends a ton of time on social media, the president being banned from the platform is a great lesson and reminder that the social sites are privately owned companies. You don't own your followers and if you don't follow their policy, they can ban you. They can also delete your page (happened to my client last month), disable your ads account, put you in "jail" and many other things. It happens to paid media buyers ALL-THE-TIME for very small infractions. So it's important that you are aware of the policies each platform has because once you're banned, there's no coming back. Note that buying followers or using robots for engagement is against policies and can easily get your account shut down. Facebook Policies | Instagram Terms | YouTube Guidelines | Twitter Rules

Clubhouse is picking up speed

I brought up the social media app called Clubhouse a few weeks ago and since then, I'm hearing about it everywhere. It's still invite-only and it's only available on iOS products. If you're like me with an Andriod, use an iPad. I got an invite last week (@JenKeeHart) but haven't had a ton of time to use it yet. It's on my daughter's iPad. It was very clear to me that now is the time to start your room and start using the platform to spread your message. And even if you don't have an invite, secure your user name. It will alert people you now that you joined and they can send you the invite (that's what happened with me). Join Clubhouse

Facebook emphasizing the "Follow" button...

And de-emphasizing "Like"...or all-out taking it away. Facebook wants to be sure that when you decide to engage with a brand you don't just "Like" them, but your actually "Follow" their content. Good news for brands, hopefully, a rise in organic content reach (one can hope!). Take a look at this article to see how the page layout will change and read more about the intention behind this.

Here are 5 ideas for content for next week

(January 18th- January 22nd)

Monday:

It's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, not a day on or off, a day of service. Are you planning to celebrate by giving back or being apart of a celebration? You could let your followers know what you plan to do. You could also commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. by sharing what you admire about him or his teachings and encouraging followers to learn more as well.

Tuesday:

Tip Tuesday- Create a list on Canva of 3-5 things your audience needs to know to solve a problem you could help. So for a salon owner, it might be 3 ways to wear your hair while you're waiting to get it cut. Or a wedding dress boutique might be 5 things you should do before you book your dress appointment.

Wednesday:

It's Inauguration Day, a huge day in our country. It could also be a day of anxiety and stress for some. You could post in celebration of our new leaders being sworn in. You could also post something encouraging to acknowledge followers you have who do not feel like celebrating. Either way, it's good to be aware that there are different sides and feelings and today will reflect both.

Thursday:

Women's Healthy Weight Day- Does your brand elevate and support women and how they feel about themselves? This could be a fun hashtag holiday to add to your content list. You could talk about your story and how comfortable you are in your body. And if you are in the health and wellness industry, this is a great day to talk about what your clients get from working with you.

Friday:

It looks like we saved our sales day for Friday again. Be sure you have a sales day every week because you are a business. Create a story on your IG today that mentions all of the services or product types you offer. Remember to add a CTA (call to action) and let your followers know how they can do business. DM you, book a call, go to your website, etc.

Here are the Hashtag Holidays for you to create content and events around next week. That link will take you to a site that has them for the rest of the year if you want to go even further.

Hashtag Holidays:

  • January 18: #MLKDay, #WinniethePoohDay
  • January 19: #PopcornDay
  • January 20: #CheeseLoversDay, #PenguinAwarenessDay
  • January 20: Inauguration Day
  • January 21: #NationalHuggingDay, #SquirrelAppreciationDay
