It’s been a lot! A lot of Things! I mean a lot. This is kind of long—sorry.

Where to start? Where I l left off last month? Good idea. It’s kinda been non-stop.

FIRST THING

My suspense novel, SOMEONE IS OUT THERE, came out on the 15th. It seems to be doing well, but I don’t have any reports from the publisher yet. If you’re curious, you can check it out here: https://books2read.com/u/m27rkG

And there’s also an enticing (or scary, maybe, I mean, it about a stalker) trailer.

SECOND THING

I wrote about this last month, but the event was way over the top! A BUNCH of family came to Knoxville for my birthday weekend. This was the cake! Created by my daughter-in-law Kimberly with the local Artisan Cakery https://theartisancakery.com/. Kimberly had me photograph the spines of a bunch of my books. She kept saying, “No, that’s too blurry—that has a glare.” And I kept doing them over and over and sending them to her. I had NO IDEA this was what they were creating!

THIRD THING

Right after that weekend, I had to get ready for Malice Domestic, the next weekend. I did Malice-Go-Round (with Mary Dutta) and monitored a panel on Sunday morning with Barbara Newhart, Sheryl Jordan, Darlene Dziomba, and Suzanne Flaig. It went very well! But it was exhausting. My walking was very bad that weekend and I was actually using a walker for the first time ever. It helped a lot.

This is Sheryl's picture and we’re in the order above. I’m very bad at getting photos at conferences, so this is the only one.

FOURTH THING

I went to my daughter’s house on Sunday to relax after the conference. Right. She was just getting over covid (from the weekend in Knoxville—4 or 5 people came away with it ((are we always going to do this for gatherings now??))). But it wasn’t a very bad case. None of them were. I DID relax for a couple of days. UNTIL the upstairs toilet leaked into the downstairs and took part of the ceiling down!

With the condition of my back and my knees, I knew I would not be able to get up and down the stairs to the potty at night. I would have flown home, but it was too expensive to change the ticket more than one day different, so I stayed at a hotel for a couple of days. So, not restful.

ANOTHER THING, KINDA, FOUR AND A HALF?

The flight home on Friday. Weather delays at all three airports. Took off late at DCA Reagan, then sat for hours and hours at Atlanta. Got home around 3 am, picked up by my darling son, poor guy.

Silver linings, though! The first leg, I sat on the aisle beside two young men speaking in a language I’d never heard before. I finally asked them what it was—Portuguese! I mentioned that I knew someone who lived in Porto, but they were from Brazil.

At the long, long layover in Atlanta, I got to talking to two women and found out that one is the LPGA chaplain! Her companion is a retired professional LPGA golfer. They asked where I was coming home from, so it came up that I write mysteries. (I’m actually pretty good at working that in, wink wink.) The golfer looked me up and they thought they were talking to a famous writer. (big grin) I told them I’m not famous, but I may have an invitation to speak at a book club through this encounter.

FIFTH THING

Three days after I got home, I had the scheduled procedure, ablation on my lumbar nerves to deaden the pain. I tried to get this before the travels, but it couldn’t be worked out. The aftereffect, lethargy, etc., lasted a few days, but I should be good to go now. I got stalled yesterday watching the Chicago Pope, but I’ll get back to work today! Pretty sure. Almost sure.

THAT’S ALL OF THE THINGS

Except for this promotion I have to tell you about! This was set up by the wonderful Sandy Murphy!

***More Murder, Mystery, Mayhem and this book sounds like Mayhem plays a big part. This is the first book in a four book series and it's certainly caught my attention. I mean, how many people die with a half-frozen package of mesquite-smoked sausage stuffed down their throats? Gotta give the killer credit for being creative and using what's at hand as a weapon.

Here's the scoop:

Twenty-two-year-old, unwed mother Imogene Duckworthy has been waiting tables at Huey’s Hash in tiny Saltlick, TX, itching to jump out of her rut and become a detective. When Uncle Huey is found murdered in his own diner, a half-frozen package of mesquite-smoked sausage stuffed down his throat, Immy gets her chance to solve a real crime.

Smoke, Stroke, and Broke are the other three titles in the series.

Now that you're a Big Spender, how about throwing in another 50c just for the heck of it?

A Fine Kettle of Fish is a short story. Where else can you be so entertained for less than a buck? A stripper, a neighborhood bar, and a stranger comes to town?

When a stranger walks into the neighborhood bar, The Fine Kettle O’Fish, Finn and the others aren’t sure what to think of him—at first.

Soon, it’s apparent that Malcolm, the new guy, is bothering everyone’s favorite striptease artist, Violet, who has had a rough time climbing out of the gutter. Something is lurking in Mal’s past, and something has to be done.
