♻️ forget the small stuff

Feb 10, 2024 1:15 pm

Hey friend!

Ever found yourself obsessing over the tiny details in your content program?

(Or maybe it's not you, but your boss...)

We often find ourselves obsessing over direct metrics:

  • Is this tweet driving traffic to our site?
  • How much revenue did this email generate?
  • How many leads did we acquire from social media this month?

These questions have their place, but they might not be the ones you should prioritize when strategizing your content distribution.

Because let’s get real for a second. Those are small questions. They're short-term questions.

We need to zoom out. Way out.

Content distribution isn’t about the instant win. Short-term wins are great, but they're not the goal.

The reason we distribute our content is so we can become the go-to guide for our audience.

Show up and deliver—make them laugh, think, or just plain feel smarter.

That’s how you start to pull the spotlight toward you and your business.

Start asking the right questions

So, you’re probably wondering, “What should I be focusing on?” Here’s what you really want to drill down on:

The Macro Questions You Should Be Asking...

Consistent Presence: "Are we regularly visible in the spaces our audience hangs out?"

You want to become the reliable source they didn’t know they needed.

Comprehensive Distribution Plan: "Do we have a strategy for distributing all the content we create?"

Every piece of content should have a purpose and a plan—from the moment of creation to its distribution across platforms.

Value of Content: "Is my content genuinely helpful, educational, or entertaining?"

The goal of your distributed content should be to add value to your audience's lives. Not get them to click some link back to your website.

Impact on Audience: "Will people be better versions of themselves after engaging with our content?"

Make sure you’re helping them hit their goals, and they’ll stick around.

Personal Engagement: "Would I engage with the content we post?"

If you wouldn’t double-tap on your own post, why would anyone else? Make stuff that your audience looks forward to.

The shift that changes everything

Content marketing is about the long haul, building trust, and showing up in ways that matter to your audience.

When you look at the big picture, content distribution becomes more about building a community, sharing ideas, and not just chasing quick hits.

It’s about creating something special that your people want to be part of.

Nail that, and the likes, leads, and revenue will follow.

Have a great week 👊

Justin
