♻️ simplifying content overload

Hey there!

I was talking with a friend this week and he said it's so easy to become overwhelmed by a mountain of repurposed content his team has.

A good problem to have.

But a problem, nonetheless.

From video snippets to text posts and blogs to newsletters, the volume can be surprising. 10 snippets coming from a webinar sounds great until you have to do something with those assets.

As someone who navigates these waters every week with my podcast, I've learned a crucial lesson:

Not all content that can be reused, needs to be reused.

The temptation is to save every clip and quote. We fear missed opportunities.

We fear not squeezing the juice from everything we created. Shoot, that’s why we started repurposing in the first place.

But, we need to think about...

What do we truly need? What does my audience truly need?

The goal should never be to produce as much content as humanly possible.

When I started creating my weekly podcast, I hit a turning point when I realized, "I don’t actually need 10 clips out of every episode. Maybe not even five."

This realization was less about cutting content and more about enhancing its impact.

Because producing less means I can deliver at a higher quality.

Fewer clips to produce. Fewer clips to edit. Fewer clips to review.

And we all know that not all clips and cuts are created equally.

As content creators, we have to learn to be discerning. And recognize that not all content serves our long-term goals or resonates with our audience.

And everything we say yes to, means saying no to something else.

Just because I can get 10 clips doesn’t mean I need 10 clips.

I might, but I need to do the hard work that comes with figuring that out.

This approach allows you to innovate, experiment with new ideas, and refine tactics without the overhead of an unwieldy content library.

Are you maximizing the value of each piece? Are you spending resources wisely?

The more I embrace a philosophy of 'less is more,' the more I can simplify my process, focus my attention, and eliminate the overwhelm.

I hope this helps you too.

Have a great week!

Justin
