♻️ does your content resonate?

Hey friend!
This week I announced the new membership and community that I'm building, and I want you to join in the fun.
I'm building a place where you can learn new distribution strategies, network with like-minded marketers, and improve your content's ROI.
50+ marketers have joined the waiting list over the last few days.
I'm still in the early stages, and if you are interested in being a founding member and want to provide early feedback, join the waiting list here.
All that said, let's jump into this week's main thought...
Just because you think your content is amazing doesn't mean your audience agrees.
It's a tough pill to swallow.
Many of us fall into the same trap.
We spend lots of time and effort creating content in a bubble, never testing it outside of internal stakeholders (if that even happens).
And then when the response is underwhelming, we find everything to blame other than taking a hard look back at the original content.
The truth is, there is endless content out there right now. And a lot of it isn't that good.
I've audited enough content strategies over the years to see that most marketers are so busy trying to keep their heads above water that rarely find the time to ask whether the content they're creating is even good enough.
And mediocre content gets you mediocre results.
But the good news is you can fix it with the right strategies. Here are 5 ways you can learn if you're content is resonating or not:
1. Hit post already
The #1 reason why content doesn't get shared is folks are afraid of realizing it's not very good.
Content is "safe" when it's on your website.
It's a lot scarier to put it out into the world.
But you'll never know until you put it out there. Develop a thick skin and be ready to learn, even if it fails.
2. Adopt a Platform-Native mindset
Can your content stand alone and provide value without any links to click? If not, you need to go back to the drawing board.
When you distribute your content, write posts that add value directly where the audience is reading it.
You won't learn anything by always forcing your audience to go to your website, podcast feed, or YouTube channel.
3. Study the data
I use Shield App to regularly conduct content audits on my LinkedIn content so I can identify weak areas in my content and double down on what's working.
Mix that in with the qualitative feedback I get, and I can get a pretty good idea of what ideas are a hit and what ideas are worth ditching.
4. Involve your audience:
Don't operate in a silo, assuming you know what they want. Nothing beats sitting down and talking with your prospects and customers.
Send a DM. Schedule a quick call. Send a survey.
And once you have their feedback, implement it!
You can never go wrong by giving your audience what they're asking for.
(Even if it doesn't show up in a keyword report)
5. Promote shamelessly:
Even if you've posted about a piece of content five times this quarter, you haven't come close to reaching everyone who could benefit from it.
Get over all the fears of self-promotion and start sharing your content again.
Have a great week 👊
