Hey there,

This month we kicked off a new weekly series where I'm breaking down each phase of the Distribtuion First framework. (Click that link to read the first post). Or check out Phase 1 or Phase 2 or Phase 3.

Today I want to dive into Phase 4: Maximization

With your program humming, it's time to expand the strategy and amplify your content with new channels and formats.

Measure your distribution impact

The biggest question I get around distribution is measuring the impact. Marketers love cold hard numbers they report to their boss. But measuring an entire distribution program is a massive undertaking.

But keep one thing in mind.

Your boss doesn’t care about content distribution.

They care about seeing the impact.

Tracking visibility and engagement metrics allows you to see what’s working and where there’s room for improvement.

This data-driven approach makes sure you’re not just guessing but making informed decisions to boost your content’s reach and impact.

And it gives you a concrete way to measure the impact of what you’re working on beyond direct marketing metrics like demo requests, free trials, or even website visits.

Remember, the goal of content distribution is to get active engagement on individual platforms. Not immediately bring people to the site.

So, how do we get started figuring this all out?

I'm not going lie to you, it takes work. But it's worth it.

Track engagement metrics

Monitor likes, shares, comments, and other engagement metrics across your distribution channels. Pay close attention to what types of content and formats drive the most interaction.

Take tons of screenshots. Anytime you see a positive comment or reaction, take a screenshot and add that along with your hard metrics every single time you share your data out.

Calculate the Repurposing Multiplier

Measure how many additional views or interactions you gain from each piece of repurposed content.

This helps you understand the true value of your distribution efforts and identify the most effective tactics.

Optimize and test new channels, formats, etc.

Now that you’ve built out the distribution system and have consistently to make it last long-term, you can start adding in new channels.

This not only helps you reach new audiences, but also gives your existing audience a diverse mix of content across channels.

Experiment with new platforms

Don’t limit yourself to the platforms you’re already using. Now's the time to test out new platforms like YouTube, TikTok or an Owned Media Channel.

Try new formats

Experiment with different content formats like live events, podcasts, or scripted video series.

See what resonates best with your audience and incorporate successful formats into your regular distribution strategy.

Maximization is all about pushing the boundaries and finding new ways to amplify your content.

You have tons of existing topics to pull from and now you can take advantage of them.

What now?

Building a Distribution-First strategy isn’t just a nice-to-have.

There's no amount of content you can create that will outrun a distribution problem.

By following the phases of Foundation, Execution, Optimization, and Maximization, you’ll transform the way you approach content marketing.

You’ll move from a cycle of constant creation to a strategic, high-impact distribution machine.

Imagine your life when...

  • every piece of content you create gets seen by the right audience
  • your messages resonate and drive action
  • and your marketing efforts are driving real business results

This isn’t something that happens by accident – and it’s entirely achievable with a Distribution-First strategy.
