Happy Holidays and Congratulations!

image

Hello ,

Happy Holidays and congratulations to those of your who participated in NaNoWriMo this year!

I'm pleased to say I managed to complete the 50,000 word challenge just in the nick of time! (That's such a funny expression when written down...)

It was so nice to get back into writing last month. I took a long hiatus after finishing the Writer's Studio in the summer and last month reminded me again just how much I enjoy writing. It also gave me renewed confidence in my ability to get words down.

I hope December finds you ready to finish the year strong with regards to your writing goals. Or at the very least, ready to enjoy some delicious holiday foods!

Things I'm currently obsessed with:

Miro: A friend introduced me to this just last weekend and I've already sunk a handful of hours into it! Ever wanted to create a digital brainstorm where you could dump all the things you know about your WIP and see how they connect? This online mindmapping tool lets you do just that!

Plottr: I think I might have sampled this writing software last year, but it has clearly gotten a major overhaul. Or I have a bad memory and poor judgement. One of the two. Anyway, it's fantastic. AND it was part of this years NaNo prize pack! Didn't finish NaNo this year? No worries! They have a free two week trial and are currently offering a Black Friday promotion which ends today. I love that you can create characters and locations and then add tags to them for things you want to track!

4thewords: I think it is fair to attribute at least half of my NaNo success to this website. It turns writing into a game. Your word count, or typing speed are used to battle monsters and collect things to complete quests. Last month they had an event going on to raise your own dragon by writing every day and battling a variety of monsters! It's very rewarding. Literally.

What I'm currently reading:

Blank Spaces - December Edition

This Canadian literary magazine features a piece by my friend and fellow Writer's Studio grad, Lisa Jones. It's only $5 for a digital copy and it's run by a group of woman in Ontario. Check it out!

The Spare Man - Mary Robinette Kowalimage

I didn't know exactly what to expect when I picked this up - but I'm hooked. It's a murder mystery...but in space! Plus it features Gimlet the adorable Westie who is based on my mentor, Eileen Cook's actual dog!

Wishing you a magical holiday season filled with love, laughter, good friends and happy memories. May 2023 make all your hopes and dreams come true!

I'll be back next year!
