I’ve spoken at 700+ events.
And after 1000+ of hours on stage, here are 7 speaking tips that actually work:
1. It’s not about you, it’s about them
Your audience cares about their challenges,
not your achievements.
Frame everything around their problems.
And how you can help solve them.
2. People meet your energy before they meet you
Your energy is what you lead with.
Be intentional with the energy you bring into the room.
It makes or breaks the first impression.
3. Be prepared
Don’t just ‘be authentic’.
Be ready.
Know exactly what you’re going to say
and how you’re going to say it.
Audiences respect when you’ve prepped for them
4. CARE
Audience won’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
Make the decision to love the people in that room.
That is something they can feel.
5. Lead with entertainment
Yes, actionable content is great.
But people want to have fun.
50% of all great keynotes are entertainment.
Create an experience people will remember.
6. Connect with people, not the entire group
If you try and reach everyone, you will reach no one.
Connect with one, you’ll reach everyone.
Find individuals in the audience and give them presence.
They will be hooked.
7. Have a good time
If you want to show ‘enthusiasm’. Let your face know.
I see so many speakers be so serious on stage.
Have fun! If you do, so will they.
Good vibes are the super power.
Even if you just use one, I promise it will change the way you communicate.
Try it out and let me know what you think!
Which principle do you resonate with most?
