“Lose my number.”
My heart sank.
We were done.
At the time, I was afraid of committing.
Not because she wasn’t the one (because she was)
But because I didn’t think I could.
She was living in California and I was in Toronto.
5 hour flight.
3 hour time change.
$500 roundtrip on Air Canada.
And I was broke.
I was in my early 20’s.
Living with my parents.
Trying to make this ‘speaking thing’ work.
We didn’t talk for months.
After some time (and some amazing friends talking some sense into me)
I reached back out.
I knew this may be the only chance I had.
Honestly, we needed to rebuild some trust but in the end…
It was the best decision I ever made.
I took the leap.
Terrified of whether or not I could make it work.
To say she has been there since day 1 would be an understatement.
She was there before:
The book deal.
The stadium events.
The 6-figure months.
The Fortune 100’s.
She was there before it all.
She was there when the speaking fee was a coffee mug.
When the ‘hotel’ was a dorm room with no pillow and no sheets.
When the venue was a patch of grass.
This isn’t 2 truths and a lie.
Those 3 are 100% true 😂
To this day, she is the reason why I’ve become the person I am today.
She is best thing that has never happened to me.
And it all started by taking the leap.
Saying yes AND THEN figuring it out.
All to say:
Be the kind of person that takes the leap.
Make the bold move.
Sign up for the race before you’re ready.
Make the unreasonable choice.
Often times, those lead to the best outcomes.
