Positivity Isn’t a Personality Trait

It’s a decision.

I was raised by immigrant parents.

Who fled Nicaragua during the war.

They flew to Canada with:

• a box of books

• clothes

• $100

In the middle of winter.

There first time seeing snow.

We were raised to believe:

”We are blessed to be here.”

They knew what the alternative was like.

My brother, sister and I didn’t.

They rooted us in gratitude for what we had.

And taught us to NEVER complain about what we didn’t have.

That mindset stuck with me.

And I’ve carried it with me ever since I was a kid.

Recently, someone asked me:

”Why are you so positive?”

I didn’t really know how to answer.

Because I was taught to FIND the blessing in every situation.

Are there bad things that happen?

Yes.

Are we in control of how we react?

1000%.

I said to her:

”Positivity isn’t a personality trait. It’s a decision. And I do my best to make daily.”

She looked at me confused at the simplicity of my answer.

Almost like there needed to be more to it than that.

Honestly, I don’t think there is.

The happiest people I’ve ever met CHOOSE joy daily.

The most positive people I’ve run into DECIDE to focus on the good.

In the world we live in today,

We need to direct our perspective.

Because if we don’t,

The world will direct it for us.

Choose joy.

Decide to see the good in the world.

When you do,

Things look a lot brighter ☀️
