Hello ,
Reverse engineering is very powerful.
It is used in construction, in medicine, in sales…
It’s used pretty much everywhere, but not very much in hiring.
So what would a reverse engineering model look like for hiring?
There are 2 areas where reverse engineering can be used in hiring A-players employees:
- First of all in identifying these A-players
- Then of course in attracting and closing these A-players.
Let’s talk about each of these.
To identify A-players, most businesses count on gut feeling.
It’s not bad to use some gut instinct. But it is not enough in itself.
Instead, you want to use reverse engineering to:
- Describe with precision the results that your new hire will need to achieve;
- Deduct the attitude, skills and knowledge that are necessary to achieve these results;
- And describe the kind of the person who will have these attitudes, skills and knowledge.
This method is very powerful to lower your attrition rate.
Now, to attract the A-players, the best metric is always your rate of selection.
How many applicants did you get for how many job positions filled?
This metric is key.
Once you understand it, your aim should be to improve it.
All the time.
Get more and more selective at every hiring.
Which means that you should know from the job definition how many applicants you need...
To hire an A-player with certainty :)
