Hello ,
Last month was a disaster.
I onboarded a new designer with a client.
The designer left after two weeks.
This “worst case scenario” happens about 5% of the time. But when it happens it is very disruptive, and very frustrating.
(and if you are a professional HR Consultant, you feel awful)
So the question is - could we have a way to recruit people with 100% certainty that they are proper talents?
We do.
The truth is, it is a lot easier to assess a potential candidate when they are in a regular job situation.
Not an interview with role-play situations.
Not an assessment centre with, again, role-plays (which you can do using zoom breakout rooms).
Actual real jobs, all day, with a boss and colleagues and all.
Right now you are coming across many talents that are working alongside you.
They can be working for:
- Your suppliers,
- Your customers,
- Or your competitors.
And it is not only you.
Your team is also coming across a multitude of talents on a daily basis. I’m sure you’ve heard it :
“Jack from our Supplier 1 is great, we’re getting the delivery tomorrow!”
Well done, but how about we have a chat with Jack from Supplier 1, who consistently does an amazing job for us?
Right now you are coming across huge talents. On a daily basis.
Right now someone from your supplier is doing stuff that is really helping you.
Right now your team is giving you feedback about a competitor that is doing amazing stuff.
Behind all these stories are real people doing real jobs. Real talents that are right next to you.
I want you to do one thing today.
Take your phone and give a call to someone working for another company who has impressed you.
Just take your phone, give them a phone call. Say well done for what they did. Show your appreciation.
And then have a casual conversation. 5-6 mins is enough.
Make a point to contact this person every month. By email, text, phone calls.
Don’t even push for anything at this stage. Just start the relationship.
Do it right now.
You will be amazed at the results.
Julien
