Some of my relationships are sinking. People that are dear to me are becoming strangers. Or enemies. So I’m reading books on communication. I’m making an extra effort. I’m bailing as fast as I can to keep the tidal wave out.
Fiction Bite - He hasn’t touched me since the abortion
I’ve ordered a negligee, with suspenders. We can order takeaway and hole up for the weekend. Or I’ll meet him for lunch. He’s free Tuesday, I checked his diary. We could walk in the park like we used to. It’s a school day, so there’ll be no kids about. I could chase him round the fountains and see if he can run fast enough to keep his suit dry. Not like last time. I had to peel it off as soon as we got home. Then we were naked. What else could we do? That was the night we conceived.
Maybe not the park.
Quote of the Week
“Listen, Tinker Bell,” he cried, “I am your friend no more. Begone from me for ever.”
She flew on to his shoulder and pleaded, but he brushed her off. Not until Wendy again raised her arm did he relent sufficiently to say, “Well, not for ever, but for a whole week.” — JM Barrie, Peter Pan
Book of the month
The Cheese Monkeys by Chip Kidd
Final Words
I can’t bail fast enough. It’s like everything I try punches another hole in the bottom of the boat. Part of me thinks I should never give up. Always keep fighting. There’s always a chance. The other part says fuck it. Why waste effort if we’re already sinking. And if I just let go, what will I find on the ocean floor?
What do you think? Let me know.
With Love,
Josiah
