A Little RENT And A Big Shift in Perspective

As I round the corner into my "late" 40s, I find myself revisiting music that supported me through rough patches in my youth, and RENT, the musical, is at the top of the list.

Hey ,

As I round the corner into my "late" 40s, I find myself revisiting music that supported me through rough patches in my past, and RENT, the musical, is at the top of the list. "There's only us, there's only this." That line has been echoing in my mind lately. It captures that feeling of being alive in the now, shedding the insignificant stuff for what really matters.

I can remember the experience of watching the show as a volunteer usher at the Bushnell Theatre in Hartford. Soaking in the stories of Roger, Angel, Maureen, Tom, Mark, Mimi and the rest transported me into artistic empathy, moving through curiosity, love, bravery, grief and intrigue - the mooing especially (iykyk 🐮.)

I've always been enamored by music and its ability to transport us to fantastic worlds - some recognizable, and some meant to show us a glimmer of another's reality. It never ceases to amaze me how a few notes and choice words can infuse comfort, insight and grace into the most challenging times.

I've been navigating through some unexpected personal news lately. This, in addition to the stress of the news cycle and political chaos has ruptured my concept of stress management. This unplanned perspective shift has fortified the reality that living in the now (without letting it swallow you whole) requires strength training of both the heart and mind. Muscles help too.

For the mont of February, I've chosen to explore a theme called "Finding Strength in the Now." It's not about building physical strength, per se, although that's certainly a part of it. It's exploring new ways of cultivating the mental and emotional strength to appreciate the small joys of the day - like little snacks of meaning.

I'm inspired to explore this theme through my writing and social media. The plan is to share practical, novel tips for cultivating presence in your daily life, including the launch of a monthly series that myth-busts and clarifies common health trends to help you find what's true for you.

I'll also be talking about my "Inner Strength, Outer Peace" program and how it can support you on your journey. And, I'll be sharing a bit more of my own story in a future check-in email, which I hope you'll find helpful.

I believe we all have the capacity to find strength in the now, even amidst challenges and uncertainty. Join me this month as we explore how to do just that, and how to live more fully and intentionally in the present moment.

Thank you for being here,

✌️Coach JZ

PS - For those with email overload, not to worry - there won't be more to weed through. You can still expect my normal 1 (sometimes 2) emails per week with a thread of strength woven in to each message.
