You Can't Go Snorkeling in a Tsunami (But You CAN Do This!)

While it's true that we can learn to ride the waves of stress, lately it feels like we're being asked to snorkel in the middle of a mega-storm.

Hey ,

I used to think stress management was about finding the perfect coping strategies and achieving a state of perpetual zen. But the reality is, life throws us curveballs, and sometimes those curveballs feel like a whole damn tsunami.

While it's true that we can learn to ride the waves of stress, lately it feels like we're being asked to snorkel in the middle of a mega-storm. And that, my friends, is a recipe for disaster.

The Stress Cycle: A Wave of Reactions

Think of your stress response like a wave. It starts with a trigger (seeing a bear in your kitchen!), builds to a peak (fight, flight, or freeze!), then gradually subsides (phew, it was just your dog). But when stressors keep coming, it's like being caught in a series of waves, leaving you feeling constantly overwhelmed and exhausted.

And let's be honest, the waves have been coming fast and furious lately. Between the dumpster fire that is the 24-hour news cycle, the never-ending scroll of social media, and trying to navigate life's everyday challenges, it's no wonder we're all feeling a bit seasick.

Trading Your Snorkel for a Life Raft

This brings me to my main point: what if this time in our lives was not calling for us to manage our stress, but instead, to fortify our lifestyles to focus on less interface with it?

Imagine trying to snorkel in a tsunami. You wouldn't focus on perfecting your breathing technique, you'd focus on getting to higher ground! That's what we need to do with stress right now. It's not about managing each individual stressor, it's about creating a lifestyle that protects us from the constant onslaught. It's about trading your snorkel for a life raft.

So, how do we get to higher ground?

Now, I know we're not all facing the same tsunami. The waves might be higher for some of us than others. That's why it's important to tailor your stress-proofing strategies to your specific needs and circumstances.
