Faith & Life Lessons - September 18, 2022

Welcome to the September 18th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

This week ended with funding unusually coming for the company.

Last week, I talked about the situation with the liquidity gap in the business.

As of Friday morning, I had a little breather coming in.

Later in the morning, during a call, our conversation took an unexpected direction.

But it was a direction that helped me to secure more funding for the business.

I am not fully out of the woods but I am going into the new week in a better position than I came into the past week.

It's God at work in a way I didn't expect.

Another reminder that my work life is important to God as the other parts of my life.

Things I Learnt

1-Wisdom for Other Couples: Today was our wedding anniversary. A couple we had been trying to meet up with since we settled in Senegal invited us for lunch.

They didn't know it was our anniversary when they invited us.

We accepted the invitation because, after church, it was going to be fellowship Sunday aka everybody-in-church-waiting-after-service-to-eat-and-chat.

We spent hours with the family and it was worth every moment.

We heard their stories and learnt from their lives.

From stories about personality differences, marriage lessons, money lessons, parents' faux pas and a host of many more.

We left them feeling richer and better.

This was the first time spending our anniversary like this.

But they made it worth our while.

God bless them.

2-Having People That Normalize us: Someone told me about a pastor in a church who has a member who calls him by name.

He doesn't usually address him as "Pastor so and so". Rather, he calls to him by name.

By doing that, he and the pastor have forged a relationship of respect but where the pastor gets to live like a normal person.

Not a person on a pedestal.

But as a man.

The relationship normalizes the pastor.

The pastor's wife remarked to the man that it was a good thing that her husband has someone like the man in his life.

It was a risk the man took. A risk that could backfire.

But it worked.

Because the pastor understands the value of having people that normalize him.

People that help us live well as humans.

Postscript

May you be humble to accept the people God sends into your life to make you more human, people who don't speak to you based on your successes but based on you being a man or woman. May you embrace them to become a better person. Amen
