Faith & Life Lessons – May 18, 2025

Welcome to the May 18th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week.

What happens when you have God’s peace and temptations are pushed at you?

Well, you can look temptations in the eye and do the right thing.

OK, I may have exaggerated a bit.

They are not yet temptations - they are opportunities with possible bumps along the way.

No matter how good an opportunity is, the bigger question is “How can you deal with the bumps it brings along?”

Well, this is where God’s peace comes in.

Knowing that God is taking care of the future makes it easier to evaluate every opportunity for the bump it will bring.

I am doing that and taking care of some of the bumps.

Ensuring that the opportunities don’t evolve into temptations.

Opportunities or temptations…God’s peace will keep me.

Things I Learnt

1-Beware of Distractions: I spoke at an event during the week. During the panel Q&A session, I got into a little bit of a business advisory session.

Someone asked what she could do to improve the income in her business. According to her, the business was not paying her bills.

I asked her what business she was in. She told me, and also said it was her passion.

My simple question was this: “Can you focus on something that pays your bills and start your passion as a side-hustle until it grows to be able to cover your bills?”

Simple right?

But not simple to live by.

Why?

Because the nice sounding advice you hear now and again is, “Follow your passion and you will never have to work a day.”

This sort of advice is a distraction from the main thing - your ability to live comfortably.

That is the first problem you solve.

Once you can solve for that, you can follow your passion.

Or else, following your passion becomes a distraction.

2 - The Courage to Show Up: I am currently in a 30-day challenge with my business coach. One of the tasks we had this week was to make a 10-minute presentation to the group.

You won’t believe it - most of us had jitters doing the presentation.

Please take note that all of us are coaches and trainers. We speak at events with a bigger audience than the small audience in the group.

One of us refused to move from the waiting room into the main room for the session.

I made my presentation, despite my jitters.

It’s the courage to show up.

That is what I want to continue doing.

Showing up to do the hard work.

No matter how uncomfortable it makes me.

Postscript

May you be comfortable doing the uncomfortable things that help you become better. Amen
