Welcome to the July 26th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.
The Story of My Week.
.
This week I had to repeat a story about something God is creating in my life over the last few weeks a couple of times.
I repeated it to different people for different reasons.
But for the same purpose.
For us to see how God is working in our lives in this current season.
The stories He writes with our lives are not for us.
They are for Him.
They tell of how He continues to forge the tapestry of humanity. How He continues to be involved in all our lives.
He is not the silent observer. He is the active worker at play in all our lives.
When we repeat the story that God is working in our individual lives, we create space for each other to make room for God to work more in our lives.
Listening to stories makes us more accessible to letting God write His stories in our lives.
As I told my story, I was opening more to more stories because I don't want to keep saying only the same story.
I want more stories.
As they heard my story, they were open to God writing similar stories in their lives.
They want their own stories.
God, The Story Writer.
Always at work. As long as we let Him write with us.
His Stories.
Things I Learned
1-The Mix of High & Low: The week ended for me at an interesting place. I had the high of seeing God come through for me and the low of seeing all the many things I have not done well.
A lot of crying babies…that's what I call them.
There is the usual excuse…I am too busy.
I don't want to dance with that excuse. I believe that I can live up to the standards of the commitments I have made to others and myself.
I think I let myself get carried away with distractions.
I have to master the discipline of pulling myself away from them early enough.
Before they make me less than I should be in this season.
2-Desperate for my Change: I am caught in-between. I am in pursuit of the change that I know is possible. But I also like the comfort of the familiar.
I realised I have not been making enough time to think about my thinking.
Yes…I have been working more like an automaton with little time for internal thinking.
I have been doing more of level 3 thinking…just thinking about ideas, systems, principles and assumptions beneath events.
I have been ignoring or doing a lot less of my level 4 thinking…this builds my ability to discover the bias, ego, fear, inherited beliefs or contradictions between what I say and how I behave.
I need to recover this again for myself.
I need to be better at examining myself.
Postscript
May you always remain open to God writing His Stories through you. Amen
