Welcome to the July 19th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.
The Story of My Week.
.
I spent most of my nights differently than I had planned this week.
One of our kids had to be admitted to the hospital. So, my wife and I took turns staying in the hospital.
I took the night shift while my wife took the day shift.
You already know that you never sleep well in the hospital while watching over a sick child. Getting up and going to work was another task. Yep, I had to keep myself strong enough to make it through a working day.
I made it through the working week.
But this is not about hospital nights. This is about how I made the most of the time. I decided to make it a bonding time with my kid.
Yes, there will be no wasted time if the time can be invested in having richer and deeper conversations.
I learned a bit more about how my kid was focused on the important things. I was impressed in some ways at how the thinking was framed.
Physically sick but mentally fit.
I got more insights into my kid's mindset and perspective.
I am grateful for our time together across 4 nights at the hospital.
Things I Learned
1-Nurtured to a Disadvantage: Someone had a conversation with me about a new team he had just taken over after he joined an organisation.
According to him, he saw a huge gap between their competence level and the level required to deliver on the objectives set for the team.
After introspection, he realised that the problem of the team was not just with the team; it was a culture problem across the organisation.
According to him, most people were comfortable with doing the barest minimum, and the company let them continue doing this.
The converse is that the company wants to triple their results. The culture of the company is putting the company at a disadvantage.
It had adopted a nurturing approach that was working to its disadvantage.
Nurturing with limits, standards, or consequences is setting any organisation up for a disadvantage.
2-All Things Around You: I recently had to work on a pitch for a prospective company. As I worked out the fastest way to get the results, it meant that I needed to get another firm to work on certain aspects of the job.
Guess what?
God had surrounded me with the right firm. They also agreed to the preliminary work arrangement.
The situation further reminded me that God will always prepare all we need ahead of when we need them.
He is a provider
Postscript
May you never forget that God will meet all your needs. Amen
