Faith & Life Lessons - September 12, 2021

Welcome to the September 12th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

For the penultimate weekend, before school resumes, our family spent time a few days visiting a holiday destination.

The apartment we stayed in was about 4-6 minutes to the beach.

After we arrived, we made our way to the beach. To our surprise, most of the folks there were in their retirement age.

It seems like some of them just get up in the morning and head out to the beach.

I wonder if that's how I will live out that stage of life when I get there.

A part of me believes that my mind will not allow my body to just kick back and watch life go by.

I probably will embrace more rest when I reach that stage.

But not too much rest.

It will probably be a sage season of life when I am teaching more from my life & faith journey.

Until then, it's work mode now.

Working to make the best for the most important relationships in my life.

Things I Learnt

1-Christians & Sickness: During the week, I put out a social media post talking about my past battles with depression.

I won the fight more than two decades ago and still love healed from it.

Someone sent me a personal message “Thoughtful…However, I see Born Again Christians enter into depression somehow unknown to them..why?”

I felt it was important to take the sting off the dis-ease called depression.

I wrote, “depression is like any sickness. It could be naturally caused or it could be an attack of the enemy”.

Once we start with this premise, addressing it becomes a little bit more straightforward.

We can now go find out the root causes.

And this applies to almost every dis-ease.

2-Deciding Right Every day: I was listening to a pastor with a huge ministry talk about the story of how he ended up where he is.

One thing was clear, it wasn’t a methodical well-planned strategy that got him where he is now.

It was just a collection of saying the right “yes” to seemingly insignificant opportunities that came his way.

He didn’t say “yes” to them because he saw them leading him to his end game. He said “yes” because that was how he saw himself bringing glory to God in that season of life.

When he was asked what his life purpose is, he responded “to bring glory to God”.

This simple declaration makes it easier to decide right every day.

You are not tied to a role or a passionate pursuit. You are open to anything God brings as long as it brings glory to God.

Purpose becomes a realization of one ambition - hearing God say “well done faithful servant”

Postscript

May you embrace the peace that Jesus gives so you make the right decision in your current season of life. May you make the decisions that bring glory to God. Amen.
