Faith & Life Lessons - September 5, 2021

Welcome to the September 5th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

I made an interesting discovery about carryon luggage for international travel.

I had planned to use duct tape when I got to the airport to seal up something for my check-in luggage.

I didn’t use it but I still had it in my carry-on.

During the security scan, the officer asked me to bring it out. After years of traveling, I only just discovered this.

Learning something new every day.

Nothing too serious

We all learn.

Things I Learnt

1-Staying off Another Saint’s Trials: someone reached out to me a few weeks back.

She was going through a challenging season of life. We had talked over the past months so I wasn’t unfamiliar with the whole situation.

She was feeling she needed to take a new turn and hoped I could provide some insight.

I told her I would think about the matter and get back to her.

The only problem was I didn’t get back to her for almost 2 weeks.

It wasn’t irresponsibility but every time I wanted to, I felt God didn’t want me to.

Anyway, I eventually sent her a message this week.

I wrote “I haven’t forgotten you but I had a sense in me that God wanted you to walk this season without me.

I have tried a couple of times to write but felt God holding me back. I am confident of His work in you.”

She responded “…you are very right, I have grown a lot since we last spoke, at least I believe I have.

And I am closely following instructions in my spirit, the few times I had wanted to remind you, I felt led not to, hence my not saying anything. Do keep praying with me please though.”

This is a reminder to me of something I was taught so many years back.

There are times it’s better to do nothing when other saints go through their trials.

God would want to be the one who comforts and directs them.

It may be more difficult for them.

Like my friend.

I sent her a message after her response.

“You are in my prayers. I am confident that God is building you up and making you stronger than the pressures of this season “.

Sometimes praying is all I can do.

2-Deciding for Faith Sake: I saw a promo for training to help make people millionaires.

No fuss, right? You probably see a lot of that now and again.

This was by a Christian leader. And the framing was typical.

I have nothing against Christians becoming millionaires.

We have a responsibility to maximize the resources God has given us.

But we must do it in faith to God.

Not in fear of what tomorrow will bring.

If we do it out of fear, we are already making it clear that we don't think God can take care of tomorrow.

We must never think that we fund God's work or take care of our families by making more money.

We do that by living by faith.

What comes afterward - whether we make as much money as millionaires or make less than that, it will always bring God glory.

And that is how we live by faith.

Postscript

May you make your most important life decisions by faith in God and not under fear of the unknown tomorrow. May you never lose your trust in God no matter what life brings. Amen.
