Back to it. How to face Jan with Joy.

Hey you,
How've you been?
Happy New Year, Merry Christmas etc.
Hope all went well.
If you're like me, or anyone I've met:
-The last few days are a total mess for knowing what day/time it is.
-You might have actually found yourself quite still... Perhaps for the first time in a year.
-And now you're not sure what's ahead, now that work and your usual admin come back.
Well... I'm here to help.
Here's what I'm thinking about this week...
When I first started in the corporate world, I heard lots of jargon.
But one thing we heard a lot was:
What you measure, you master.
And this is quintessentially true.
Find an athlete who doesn't know their times, weights, abilities.
Find a sales person who doesn't know their pipeline, targets, conversion.
But what about having a good life?
What if 2026 was the year to master that?
Because...
The clock only goes one way right?
You've got 52 weeks ahead...
- How many friends are you going to see?
- How many concerts?
- What holidays are you going to go on?
- When are you going to play that new sport (pádel?) for the first time?
- Where do you want to explore if you find yourself free on a weekend?
- How many times are you going to see your parents?
- Are you going to do anything that scares you?
- Or teaches you something new?
The maths gets weird here. Most of the above will be less than 5, a few less than 10.
But let's not let any of them be 0.
The more you can plan for now, the better.
What's stopping you pencilling in 5 things now?
You can always change later.
And, when I started this email, this is where I wanted to lead you.
How about scoring each of your days?
Because what you measure you master.
What if each day you took 30 seconds to jot down a few numbers.
How well you ate, how well you worked, whether you exercised etc.
Well.
You could try using PEDRO - or a similar derivative.
I've been scoring my PEDRO's daily for over 7 years.
P-Productivity
E-Exercise
D-Diet
R-Relationships (making effort with people, speaking truths)
O-Order (Tidy room, good bed time etc).
Each out of 5.
I've chosen what a 5 looks like, and I know what a 1 looks like.
I've shifted the goal posts over time, as my needs and goals change.
But these 5 have kept me pretty on point.
Because I know what a day where I score 10 feels like, and I know that a 23 feels 10000x better.
So I know to aim for that every day I can.
Now it's your turn.
You might not want to use PEDRO, maybe you want to add an S for stretching, or replace order with Hydration...
Whatever, just put a small notebook under your pillow and score them before bed.
You'll be amazed how different Jan would be if you took the time to deliberately, purposefully, aimed in an upward direction towards a better day, every day.
PS: Calorie counting isn't the best way to lose weight. But it does mean that you're (at the very least) putting a lot more attention towards what you're eating. IE- you're mastering something through measuring.
Think about your days the same way.
Best of luck, hit reply if you've any questions.
Cheers
