Biden administration to provide free Covid vaccines to uninsured Americans this fall through end of 2024
๐ Yay! The Biden administration just announced a program to give free ๐ Covid vaccines to uninsured Americans until December 2024! ๐ These discounted shots will be available at pharmacies and 64 state and local health departments. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is even hoping that vaccine makers will donate more shots to pharmacies to help out! ๐ Unfortunately, there are still between 25-30 million uninsured adults in the United States and some Americans whose insurance won't cover Covid vaccines this fall, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. ๐ The good news is that the government has already purchased vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna, and Novavax, and will make sure everyone has access to them! ๐
Obesity drug maker Versanis to be bought by Eli Lily for $1.9B
Eli Lilly is making moves! They just announced that they're acquiring Versanis, a private company that focuses on creating obesity drugs, for up to $1.93 billion! ๐ฐ Eli Lilly will pay Versanis shareholders in cash, with upfront payment and potentially more if Versanis meets certain "development and sales milestones."
๐ Versanis, founded in 2021 by Aditum Bio, has one experimental drug for obesity and other conditions. ๐ท Eli Lilly is making a smart move by jumping on the weight loss industry bandwagon, which has seen a lot of growth since Novo Nordisk's injections, Wegovy and Ozempic, took off last year.
Analysts predict that the global weight loss drug market could be worth $100 billion by 2030! ๐ฑ Eli Lilly's stock price went up 3% on Friday following the exciting announcement.
This could be huge in helping reduce costs for HSA members that are battling with weight loss. ๐
Inflation rose just 0.2% in June, less than expected as consumers get a break from price increases
๐๐พ Inflation took a nosedive to its lowest level in over two years in June! How did it happen, you ask? Well, prices slowed down a bit and we also had an easier comparison to a time when prices were skyrocketing.
The consumer price index (which measures inflation) only went up 3% from last year, the lowest it's been since March 2021. And on a monthly basis, it only rose 0.2%. When you take out the wacky prices of food and energy, the core CPI only went up 4.8% from last year and 0.2% for the month. Everyone was expecting it to be higher, so this is great news! The Federal Reserve can breathe a little easier since inflation was at a crazy high of 9% at this time last year (๐ฑ). Basically, we're making progress, people! ๐
Strategist David Roche says we'll avoid a global recession, central banks will 'change the goalposts'
The market predicts a 25 basis point hike from the U.S. Federal Reserve this month, but a recent consumer price inflation reading suggests prices may be starting to cool down.
Veteran strategist David Roche thinks the Fed will hold off on cutting rates until next year, and expects the global economy to experience static growth with high rates. However, Roche believes a recession is unlikely and that central banks will need to rethink their approach to inflation.
๐ Despite this, economists still expect interest rates to increase later this year due to tight labor markets and strong economic activity.
UnitedHealth stock jumps after earnings top estimates despite rising medical costs
Wow! ๐ UnitedHealth Group's stock price soared ๐ on Friday, thanks to their impressive second-quarter revenue and earnings report, which exceeded the expectations of Wall Street analysts ๐.
Even though medical costs are rising, UnitedHealth Group managed to calm investor worries after hinting at an increase in non-urgent surgeries and outpatient services โบ๏ธ.
The company's market value is a whopping $447 billion ๐ธ, making it the largest healthcare company in the U.S. ๐ช. While the stock is down for the year, Friday's gains were certainly cause for celebration ๐๐!
Citigroup posts better-than-expected earnings and revenue
Citigroup just reported Q2 earnings and revenue that exceeded expectations! However, their revenue fell 1% from last year due to market and investment banking struggles.
๐CEO Jane Fraser acknowledged the tough economic environment but praised the company's strong balance sheet and diversified business model. ๐ชIn the quarter, Citi earned $1.33 per share (vs. $1.30 expected) and brought in $19.44 billion in revenue (vs. $19.29 billion expected).
๐คUnfortunately, their net income dropped 36% from last year due to high expenses, credit costs, and lower revenue. ๐
Wells Fargo beats estimates for second-quarter results, hikes guidance for net interest income
๐ฆ Wells Fargo crushed Wall Street's expectations in Q2! ๐ฐ๐ฏ They reported earnings per share of $1.25 (compared to the expected $1.16) and revenue of $20.53 billion (compared to the expected $20.12 billion).
๐ The bank's net interest income also exceeded expectations, and they raised their full-year guidance for the metric.Despite the great news, shares of Wells Fargo only dipped by 0.3%.
๐ Overall, they had a total net income of $4.9 billion, a significant increase from last year. Higher interest rates played a major role in their success, driving their net interest income up by 29% YoY. ๐ธ
JPMorgan Chase beats analysts' estimates on higher rates, better-than-expected bond trading
๐ JPMorgan Chase just crushed it in Q2! They reported better-than-expected results, even without the impact of their First Republic acquisition. Revenue went up 34% thanks to higher rates and loan growth. Net income surged 67% to a whopping $14.5 billion ๐ค๐ฐ๐ธ. And their net interest income climbed a whopping 44% to $21.9 billion. CEO Jamie Dimon said it best: "The U.S. economy continues to be resilient." ๐บ๐ธ๐
2 RV Stocks With Unusual Options Activity: Only Oneโs a Buy
Thor Industries (THO) is the 20th most active put option with a volume of 974 and open interest of 136. They are the ๐'s largest RV manufacturer ๐ while Winnebago (WGO) is the 32nd most active put option with a Vol/OI of 5.26x.
Although both stocks have had a good year in the markets, THO is up 44% year-to-date while WGO has a YTD return of 30%, only THO is worth buying. ๐ธ Compared to WGO, THO is the bigger of the two RV manufacturers with a market cap exceeding $5.7 billion, nearly three times Winnebagoโs. ๐ญ๐ฐ According to Barchart.com data, the 11 analysts that cover THO stock give it a Hold rating, thus a better play might be to find a put with a few more weeks to expiration and a lower strike price. This way, you can work an income play that lets you buy THO shares at a lower entry point.
Airbnb Stock is Still Soaring, Making It Popular With Option Traders
Airbnb (ABNB) stock is totally on ๐ฅ, making it a crowd favorite with options traders ๐ค. ANB stock is up over 68% YTD at $141.72 as of July 14 early trading, including over 13% in the last month. ๐ Investors who have bought calls, as well as shorted call and put options, are still crossing their fingers ๐ค for this upward trend to continue.
Earlier this month we chatted about the โrevenge travelโ phenomenon which has caused Airbnb's free cash flow (FCF) to skyrocket. Microsoft Stock Nears Record Highs After Bull Note
Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) is killing it! ๐ The shares are set for their fourth straight win, up 1.6% to trade at $348.14. ๐ UBS upgraded the blue-chip tech giant to "buy" from "neutral," with a price-target hike to $400 from $345.
The firm cited cloud stabilization and artificial intelligence (AI) tailwinds. ๐ฅ๏ธ๐ป But, there's some uncertainty surrounding the tech giant's $69 billion acquisition of video game name Activision Blizzard (ATVI). ๐ค Year-to-date, Microsoft stock is up an impressive 44.7%. ๐ค The shares' 40-day moving average has also been on fire as support for the past few months.
On Friday there's was double the amount of typical volume with 181,000 calls and 73,000 puts exchanged. ๐ฎ
