Report: 1.5 Million Medicaid Enrollees Have Been Disenrolled from Coverage

image

Oh no! More than 1.5 million Medicaid peeps got cut off from coverage as of June 29. According to a report by KFF that looked at data from 27 states and D.C., the end of the Medicaid continuous enrollment provision was to blame.πŸ€” This provision used to keep states from booting people off Medicaid during the pandemic, but it stopped on March 31.

πŸ˜• The report said that 38% of people who had completed renewals got dropped in the reporting states. 😞 But, on the bright side, about 62% or 2.6 million peeps got to keep their coverage renewed.

Improving Maternal Health Outcomes Starts with Reducing Unnecessary C-Sections

image

🀰🏽It's time to prioritize maternal health! There are so many ways we can improve outcomes for moms and babies. Let's start by reducing unnecessary C-sections and promoting vaginal births.

These changes have been proven to save lives and result in better health for new moms. But there's still a lot of work to be done. πŸ˜” The latest report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed a 40% increase in maternal deaths in the U.S. in 2021 compared to the previous year. And the disparity between non-Hispanic Black and White women is shocking. We can't ignore these statistics any longer. Let's work together to make a difference!

Should Investors be Buying the Dip in Base Metals in Q3 2023?

image

Base metals had a rough go in Q2 2023 😞. While a composite for 29 raw material futures and forward markets in the U.S. and the U.K. showed a small increase of 0.21% from March 31 through June 30, 2023, base metals fell a whopping 7.51% and were down 9.94% for the first half of the year. Five out of six base metals fell in Q2 and over the first six months.

LME tin was the only metal that showed any growth in Q2 and since the end of 2022 πŸŽ‰. LME zinc three-month forwards were the worst-performing base metal in Q2 , followed by LME three-month nickel and LME aluminum forwards. 😞 Zinc, nickel, and aluminum posted double-digit percentage losses in Q2, while zinc and nickel were down more than 10% since the end of last year.

Crude Settles Higher as Saudi Arabia and Russia Cut Production

image

πŸ›’οΈπŸš€ August WTI crude oil (CLQ23) soared up by +2.00 (+2.87%) on Wednesday, while Aug RBOB gasoline (RBQ23) made a happy jump up by +5.59 (+2.27%). The prices of both crude oil and gasoline reached their highest levels in a week and ended on a positive note.

The reason for this happy news is the anticipated decrease in global crude oil supplies. Saudi Arabia and Russia, both major oil producers, have confirmed that they will be cutting down their crude production. Saudi Arabia has pledged to extend its 1 million bpd production cut through August, which will keep their crude output at its lowest level in years. πŸ“‰ On the other hand, Russia has promised to cut down its crude output by 500,000 bpd in August, which is a voluntary move. 🀝

Nat-Gas Prices Under Pressure on the Outlook for Cooler U.S. Temps

image

πŸ’°πŸ’¨ Nat-gas prices took a bit of a dip today due to the forecast for cooler temps 🌑️ in some parts of the US, which means less demand from electricity providers for air conditioning. But it's not all bad news - there are predictions for above-normal temps πŸ”₯ in other regions.

However, the main reason for lower prices is still the high inventories caused by the warm winter ❄️ we had. It's kinda like having too many sweaters when it's hot outside. Europe and the US both have an excess of stored gas , so we'll have to wait and see what happens next.

Holiday Starts with a Bang

image

πŸ’Έ USD: Sep '23 is on the rise at 102.765, while Aug '23 Crude is also up at 71.17⬆️. The Sep '23 30 Year T-Bond is up 10 ticks and trading at 126.30. On the other hand, the Sep '23 S&P 500 emini ES contract is 86 ticks lower and trading at 4470.75. However, the Aug '23 Gold contract is shining brightly with a trading up at 1936.70. It seems like we have a mixed market, with some correlations and some not. While Gold trades higher, the USD is also up, which is not correlated. But we know that Gold tends to have an inverse relationship with the US dollar🀝. Let's see how this seesaw plays out!🀞

Why the Stratospheric Rally in Coty (COTY) May Continue Moving Higher

image

πŸ‘€ At first glance, Coty's (COTY) beauty care stock may seem overdue for a healthy correction. Since the start of the year, COTY has skyrocketed almost 43%, whereas the S&P 500 only returned just over 16%. πŸ’° It may be time to cash in some profits, as COTY is currently priced at a premium to earnings. However, there's still potential for the rally in COTY to continue.

Options traders are bullish on the stock's upside potential, and COVID-19 fears have faded away. No need for masks or social distancing anymore! 😷 It's time for social normalization, meaning it's safe to go out and meet new people without worrying about personal health risks. (Unless, of course, you come across someone with nefarious intentions 😈)

Unusual Activity Today in Meta Put Options May be an Income Play

image

Unusual and heavy activity today in Meta Platforms (META) put options! πŸ€” This could mean bearish views or income collection. If you're long the puts, you might be a little skittish, but shorting the puts provides income πŸ’°. However, the trades probably suggest that the traders are net short the puts, meaning they believe META stock will stay flat or rise in the next week or two!

There were three tranches of unusual put options trades, as shown in the chart below πŸ”. In each case, the volume of put options traded today is about 20x the existing amount of contracts outstanding. In other words, these trades are HUGE and likely made by institutional traders! πŸ€‘
