3-Point Thursday #218
Dec 03, 2020 5:15 pm
Hey,
Finally out of the house, as lockdown 2 ended yesterday, writing from a cosy little coffee shop in Westfield Stratford which allows me to be a little more productive and distraction free!
This week's 3-pointer:
Following the announcement they were going to receive a big-time investment from 2K Foundations for the refurbishment of their venue, for this week's podcast, we sat down with founder and director of City of Birmingham Rockets basketball club, Rob Palmer. It proved to be a super interesting conversation, getting detail on what the investment actually means for the club, whether there are BBL aspirations floating around, and having Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon on board for the ride.
The GB Senior Men split their games in Pau, France, in their quest for EuroBasket 2022 qualification, suffering a heavy loss in their opener against the hosts, before bouncing back with a much better performance on Sunday in a win against Montenegro. It was great to see Gabe Olaseni going to war for the coaching staff in the post-game presser and points to the togetherness of the group.
The BBL announced their new centralised streaming platform 'BBL Player' this week, in an attempt to generate more revenue during a COVID-19 impacted season. They immediately came under fire for the pricing, and have backtracked to provide all games under the £19.99 a month subscription, though my general sense is that it's still too expensive. Meanwhile, BBL makes its return to Sky Sports tonight - make sure you tune in!
As always, that wraps up another drop, hit reply with any questions, comments or anything else.
With gratitude,
Sam
