3-Point Thursday #333
Oct 06, 2023 8:49 am
Hey,
I've got a funding bid to write but I've just clocked I didn't get to this yesterday! A week of too much procrastination as I'm determined to get it completed today, but before I do...
This week's 3-pointer:
๐ Caledonia & Sheffield reveal new facilities
Caledonia Gladiators have revealed their (temporary!) 1600 seat venue which they debuted last night against Surrey on Sky Sports, while Sheffield Sharks have shown off their new 2000+ seater that will be given its first test run on Sunday. Both massively positive steps forward in the game as they join Leicester and Newcastle as clubs with ownership/control of their facility.
๐ช๐บ Lions get EuroCup campaign off the mark, Eagles lose controversially
London Lions had a successful start to their EuroCup campaign as they defeated Umana Reyer Venezia - thought a lot of people are asking, where have the fans gone?! Copper Box has been very empty this season compared to last - granted all mid-week games, so let's see what happens on Sunday. Meanwhile, Eagles were robbed in the ENBL - losing at the buzzer following a 3-second call on the possession before that has since been deemed incorrect by the league. Domestically, check the headlines from Week 3 as Patriots got off the mark, Cheshire took down Newcastle and Lions kept on winning.
๐ณ Hackney park renamed in tribute to Joe White
'Joe White Gardens' was officially unveiled last Friday after the legendary basketball player & coach Joe White (1962-2002), who impacted countless young people in East London through the 1980โs, 1990โs & early 2000โs. It comes as part of a wider review into the names of local landmarks, streets, buildings and public spaces in Hackney to ensure they reflect the boroughโs diverse history. Our crowdfunding campaign for the documentary about Joe has now surpassed ยฃ2000 raised, but we're only a tenth of the way there - please consider donating to help us be able to release it!
That wraps up another drop, as always, hit reply with any thoughts, questions or anything else.
With gratitude,
Sam
