3-Point Thursday #332

Sep 28, 2023 11:23 am

Hey,

A slower week for me this week, enjoying a bit more space in my schedule after wrapping up the final (final!) event in our calendar as we helped the NBA with their Jr NBA Mile as part of London Marathon's Vitality Wellness Festival this weekend in Green Park. It was good fun and exposed a lot of new people to the game; got me thinking those types of events are arguably more important than any others when it comes to growing he game with new audiences.

Anyway, this week's 3-pointer:

🎬 Help us honour a legend by supporting the 'Big Joe' doc

As you may, or may not, know, we've been working on a documentary for almost five years now (yes, these things take a long time while juggling a million and one balls!), and it's now basically finished. It's about the legend that is Joe White - a coach from Hackney, who tragically passed away aged just 40. In his short time coaching he produced 32 pros and won 37 national titles but more importantly positively impacted thousands of young people across London. However, the licensing of the archive footage - from the likes of the NBA, the IOC, Getty Images, and ITV, is going to cost Β£20,000 to get permission to use. So, we've just launched our first crowdfunding campaign - if you're able to donate a bit of money, it would go a long way in helping us get this over the line and be able to release it to the public! Check out the trailer and more information on the gofundme page.

πŸ› Specialist basketball store Bouncewear opens in London

In perhaps another sign of things moving in the right direction for British basketball, specialist basketball store Bouncewear has officially opened in Shoreditch. Having started in 2004 in Belgium, they’ve since expanded to six stores in Belgium, four in France, one in Luxembourg, one in Spain and now their first in the UK. Make sure you pay them a visit and keep your eyes peeled as we expect to see them making their presence felt in UK hoops!

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί Lions exit EuroLeague Women, Caledonia drop to Europe Cup

Tough news for British teams competing in Europe this week, as Lions women were unable to qualify for the EuroLeague Women, and will instead pay in the EuroCup again, while Caledonia Gladiators men suffered an ugly loss to Fribourg to fail to advance in the BCL qualifiers and will now compete in the FIBA Europe Cup this season.

That wraps up another drop, as always hit reply with any thoughts, questions or anything else!

With gratitude,

Sam
