3-Point Thursday #263
Oct 30, 2021 2:11 pm
Hey,
Happy Saturday!
This week's 3-pointer:
🌍 London Lions pick up double victory
It was another European double-header at the Copper Box on Wednesday with a double-win for the Lions in Europe - starting with the women taking down unbeaten Castors Braine to boost their EuroCup Women qualification hopes, and the men taking an equally impressive win over also previously undefeated medi Bayreuth. Massively positive steps but perhaps an indicator of the struggles basketball has breaking into the mainstream when even experiencing success on the continent, it struggles to get any type of mainstream media coverage.
The GB Senior Men are returning to Newcastle next month for their World Cup qualifier, facing off against Greece on the 25th. The news hasn't been positively received by all the players, with Gabe Olaseni tweeting it should be in London (where they haven't played since 2017) - tough balance for the federation to get between pleasing the players and running a successful event - the likelihood is Newcastle will be sold out (because the game/ticketing will be managed/ran by the Eagles), whilst GB has always struggled at the Copper Box. What would you do? Meanwhile, the women will be in Manchester on November 11, as they also face Greece in EuroBasket Women qualifiers.
We caught up with the top plays last week and were up to date with week 4 - check them out - but are now behind again as we try to get Week 5 done - hopefully this weekend before this week's games (week 6) are finished!
That wraps up another week - as always hit reply for any thoughts, questions or anything else - have a great weekend!
With gratitude,
Sam
