Corporate Newsjacking

There is a mismatch between what most businesses are talking about and what their communities are talking about.

A lot of brands use a strategy called news-jacking. Where they try to jump on the bandwagon of what’s in the news.

Is it gay pride month? Get that rainbow up on your social media icon! 🌈 “Look at us with a rainbow, we’re just so totally progressive and hip with the kids.”

“Hey Mark, there’s a heatwave! Let’s put our mascot into one of those ice-selling freezers!”

“O… M… G…, Janice, you are the most creative person I know! That’s what our people care about, puppets on ice!”

Conference rooms and slack channels across the nation are abuzz with all the pointless newsjacking.

What people want is ACTION!

Show your people that you are doing something they care about.

Benjamin Franklin once explained how one can make a lasting impression, in modern terms, how to get noticed…

“Either write something worth reading, or do something worth writing about.”

Everyone knows that actions speak louder than words. Stop giving lip service from your business and start documenting what you’re doing that is worth talking about.
