Greetings from dark Abbotsford, British Columbia!

It's early morning as I prepare all the great news to share with you. I also have some sad news to impart first.

(Warning - death of pet ahead - feel free to skip to find some happy news farther down.)

The last time we spoke, I included a picture of my beloved Himalayan cat, Lady Arabella de Bergerac. I said she was almost nineteen and going strong. Unfortunately, that was a bit of bravado on my part. A visit to her favorite vet just a couple of weeks later revealed her deteriorating health was now causing suffering. Of course, I didn't want my baby girl to endure any unnecessary pain. She came home for a week of snuggles, treats, kisses, and love. Definitely one of the hardest weeks of my life. But she was able to go out on our terms and, in the end, her passing was quiet and peaceful. But I've got a huge gaping hole in my life.

Bella came to me in March 2004. She was the last kitten of Sassafraz and Cyrano de Bergerac from Magnificats Cattery. (Better known as Sassy and Fluffy.) My best friend gave her to me and was going to show me how to take over the cattery. Alas, my friend died before Bella turned one, breaking my heart. Still, I embarked on the journey of becoming a breeder. I didn't breed show cats - I bred kittens who turned into loving cats who brought much joy to their new families. I hand raised each one, giving them names, and showering them with love. I still hear from some families although, given the passage of time, some of Bella's progeny are now passing.

My amazing girl gave me much love. I had her through my tumultuous and terrible thirties and then she saw me achieve my dream of being a published writer in my forties. Through it all, she was a steady presence in my life. In her later years, she welcomed my puppy Ally and played with her, even though Bella'd earned her retirement by then. Now she's passed over the rainbow bridge. I worried Ally might be lost without her faithful companion, but my loving dog has gone on much the same as she always has. Maybe she understood it was time.

Anyway, thank you for letting me share my grief. For those of you who have lost a special furry companion - or anyone important to them - you know the pain. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, but it's the price we pay to have these amazing companions in our lives. Rest well, Lady Arabella - you've earned peace and quiet.

I had great fun writing this book about my favorite city in the world - Vancouver, British Columbia. I might've snuck in a couple of characters from my previous books, but this is a complete standalone book. Here's the synopsis:

Val

When I need to get away from the heat in Los Angeles, I head to a friend’s house in Vancouver, Canada. I just need to hide out. Oh, and that cute redhead? A mighty fine way to pass the time. Will this fling become something more by the time things cool down?

Seamus

When I’m invited to my boss’s house for a party, I’m thrilled. And nervous. Then I meet a guy who helps me relax. Even when I find out who he is, I keep coming back for more. Only it turns out I might be way over my head. Can I get out before I fall for him?

Anderson has been harboring a secret for a long, long time. One that wasn't easy to come to terms with.

Now, after all that's happened, being honest with himself and everyone else is the only thing that makes sense.

But Anderson soon finds that accepting his truth is the easy part; acting on it is what's difficult.

Will the change of scenery be enough to help Anderson and his kids through this tough time? Or was uprooting their entire life the biggest mistake he's ever made?
