Greetings from scorching Abbotsford, British Columbia!
When I bought the condo in Abbotsford, I did it because I could afford it (mostly), proximity to my work office in Vancouver (where I'm expected to poke my head in periodically), and being close to my family across to Fraser River in Mission (usually a good thing). It didn't occur to me until Tuesday, when the first jets flew overheard, that this is the home of the ABBOTSFORD AIR SHOW. Duh, right?
Now, when I lived in Mission - on the far side of the mountain - I could hear the planes. I can only imagine what this weekend is going to be like. If not for my beloved cat (see below) getting into a tizzy and not eating properly when left alone, my dog and I would head to the farthest fleabag motel where I'd hunker down and finish the novella I'm writing. Alas, I love my Lady Arabella de Bergerac. So headphones it'll be. Fortunately, neither the cat nor the dog bat an eyelash at loud noises. (Yes, I know how lucky I am.)
Also, I'm doing a live virtual read from my book Hugh tomorrow. First, I hope you attend! I'd love to have you watch. Secondly, wish me luck finding a clean passage from the book. Apparently I swear a lot (who knew?). Lastly - but perhaps most importantly - hope I get ten minutes without planes flying overhead. Regardless, it'll be fun and I hope you can make it. Participating in the anthology Love Is All Volume 5 was a privilege and we raised a nice sum for the Matthew Shepherd Foundation and Equality Texas. Thank you to everyone who supported us and picked up a copy. Did you miss it? Well, I'm launching Page Against the Machine today. The novella is set in my Mission City fictional world. It's an opposites attract, enemies to lovers, instalove story with a cute cat named Aristotle. I had so much fun writing this story, and I can't wait to share. Since I wrote the novella for an anthology, I had to cap my word count. I considered expanding the story, but I wanted to get Dickens and Spike out into the world as soon as possible! Yes, it's true. Tomorrow (Saturday, August 6th), I'm reading from Hugh (Single Dads of Gaynor Beach). The reading is open to the public, so you're invited! It takes place at 1pm Eastern, 12pm Central, and 10am Pacific. I also understand that's late in Europe and the middle of the night for Australia. Have no fear if you can't make it! The recording will be available a couple of days later so you can check it out. There are 5 of us reading from a wide variety of genres. Hope I'll see you there!
