Sleep.
How great does a glorious sleep feel?
This amazing short article from Healthline offers 17 tips on greater, richer sleep and you will see it follow our Healthy Six rules.
As a reminder (and if you haven't read the program, this is your Coles notes)
- Exercise will positively impact your sleep more than any sleep aid. Fatiguing our body, through strength training and cardio work, makes the muscles want to relax and recover at night - this is where we get stronger
- Set your AM and PM routines - morning light to set your circadian rhythm and NO blue light before bed (I need reminding of that)
- No heavy food before bed - this is why we have an Intermittent Fasting Period during the 28-Day Healthy Nutrition reboot. Not eating at night changes your sleep.
- No caffeine six hours before bed - if you are sensitive, 12
- Booze hugely disrupts our sleep. You don't have to worry about that if you are following the H6 way of life.
- Have a routine that calms you at night - gratitude journal, reading, meditations, herbal tea.
No my humble moment.
My sleep has been WHACKED for two months. Seriously.
Stress. Anxiety.
Can I afford this reno?
Where is my business going?
Are the kids ok?
Am I ok?
Do I like the bathroom?
Am I screwing up my job?
We speak to ourselves all the time - and at 4 am, sometimes there is a loudspeaker. I have tossed. I have turned. I have done 1 hour long sleep meditations at 3 am. And then, I dial it back to the above tips.
Was I on my phone 20 minutes before bed (yep)
Did I go for a walk first thing in the morning (nope)
What this has taught me is that sleep is as important as exercise and nutrition. And it is something to work on.
Last year we had a sleep expert on our program (she can't come on this time but hopefully in the summer she will!) and she said something so important
One bad night sleep is to be expected every week.
EVERY WEEK!!!
So, let's chill out a little....and work on sleep the next six week!
