Between the Pages

Hi

Friday was Anzac Day here in Australia, and it started with the dawn service down by the beach, attended by hundreds of people. The service starts at 6am, but the early start is not a deterrent for those who attend. I don’t go every year, but I had a visitor from Italy staying for a few days and she was interested to witness the event.

For those outside of Australia, ANZAC is an acronym for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corp, formed during the First World War, and known for the ill-fated landing at Gallipoli in 1915.Initially, Anzac Day was commemorated in support of those soldiers killed or injured during that campaign, but has since become a recognition of all of the armed forces in many area of war.

The event began in the dark with a lone piper playing as those few soldiers left from the Second World War marched to the place of ceremony. I don’t know about you, but a piper is always guaranteed to make me a little teary at emotional times like that. The attached photo is not very clear, as it was taken from a distance, but you can see him standing at a high point, overlooking the beach.

Anzac Biscuits were made during the years of the war and send to our troops overseas. They are still a part of Australian cuisine, and are often made at this time. I have mostly sworn off biscuits, in deference to my expanding waistline, but made a batch this year. Golden Syrup is an essential ingredient.

I was thrilled at an early review I received for Avenging Angel. It reinforced that I had written a book that readers were going to enjoy.

“I do love a good assassin read and this one is awesome. Zahra is tough and fierce and truly believes in her cause, which makes the story all the better for it. No spoilers! No blurb repeats, read this story to get the answer to the question at the end of the blurb. I Loved this book!!! I recommend!

Thank you, Sissy J.

Did you know?

I have mentioned it before, but reviews mean so much to an author. Even giving a star rating helps future readers decide whether they might like to read a book.
