Day Crafting: When You Can’t Start, Start Here

Aug 07, 2025 4:21 pm

Hi – how are you doing?

More often than I'd wish, I plan to do something, but when the time comes, I hit some kind of resistance. Amongst the self-condemnatory self-talk, I hear myself say I don't feel like it.

If this never happens to you, I'd be surprised. Like me, you have a future planning part of your brain (the rider) who underestimates how we (the elephant and the rider) might struggle with the task when the time comes. The rider makes plans and sets direction, either forgetting the existence of the elephant or expecting the elephant to follow.

It doesn't always happen, but if the elephant resists, it's a clue that something deeper is going on. The elephant is trying to tell you something. I explored this recently in three short reels.

  1. Resistance Stuck – try not to be too hard on yourself.
  2. Resistance Flavour – not all resistance tastes the same.
  3. Resistance Action – a way forward even when you don't feel like it.

A Brand New Course

The Day Crafting Apprentice Course has been replaced by a new model: two sessions instead of six with the option to follow on to a four session Apprenticeship delivered 1:1 or in very small groups. You can find out more on the moderately revamped Day Crafting website.

And, because you're you, there is an early bird discount for the two Day Crafting Foundation courses happening this Autumn.

15% off for the following 2025 Foundations Courses, if you book four weeks in advance:

If your Elephant has been especially stubborn lately, maybe this is a good moment to gently retrain it. Crafting better days starts with noticing – and then make more time for ..... ?? ...... Preparation.

Warmly,

Bruce
