November 4, 2026
Now that November is here, I've started thinking about Christmas. The first two boxes have come down from the attic -- my bird ornaments and the tree they live on until the end of January. Every year I think I need a bigger tree because there's hardly a branch left with my new additions. But then I stand back to look at it after it's decorated and admire the abundance. At the very least it offsets the beautiful sugar maple just outside the window which just lost the last of its leaves last night, thanks to wind and rain.
My favorite tree
Writing is like that. Days when the words flow and others when you wonder if the well has run dry. This year has been more like the latter for me, but with prayers and a little discipline (thanks to my critique partner, Rachael, for holding me accountable), I've recently started showing up at the keyboard more often.
I'm packing my books for the author event in Peru, IL this weekend. I'll be at Writers at Westclox Book Fair, signing with over 30 other authors of all genres (more details below). I can't wait to set up in this new venue in the historic downtown. These in-person events are also good for me. I love spending time with writers and readers, even if just for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon.
